DNB meaning on a bet slip: draw no bet, a two-way bet on a game that normally has three outcomes. If you pick a side and the match is drawn, your stake is returned.

It is one of the markets in the set of sportsbook sports betting markets, and this page builds a DNB price from three-way prices step by step. The prices are labelled examples, not LARO77 prices. 21+ only.

Draw no bet: what happens to the stake

A 1X2 market pays only if your side wins, and a draw loses. Draw no bet removes the draw as a losing outcome. Three results remain, but only two matter for profit.

OutcomeYou bet DNB homeWhat happens to the bet
Home winsYesWins at the DNB price
DrawYesPush: stake returned
Away winsYesLoses the stake

The general convention is that a draw means a push, a refund, and not a win or loss. A match that is abandoned is treated as void and the stake also comes back. The rules page inside the sportsbook sets the exact wording for each sport.

DNB meaning in numbers: building the price

Start with three example prices: home 2.10, draw 3.40, away 3.60. The probability of a draw implied by 3.40 is 1 ÷ 3.40 = 0.294, or 29.4%. Removing the draw means the stake is safe in 29.4% of the weight, so only the remaining 1 − 0.294 = 0.706 matters.

The formula: DNB price = side price × (1 − 1 ÷ draw price).

  1. Home: 2.10 × (1 − 0.294) = 2.10 × 0.706 = 1.48.
  2. Away: 3.60 × 0.706 = 2.54.

So a ₱100 stake on home at 1.48 returns ₱148 if home wins, a profit of ₱48. If the match is drawn the ₱100 comes back; if away wins it is lost. Compare the three-way bet on home at 2.10, which returns ₱210 on a win and loses everything on a draw.

SideThree-way priceDraw no bet priceReturn on ₱100 if side wins
Home2.101.48₱148
Away3.602.54₱254

Checking the working: the two DNB prices imply 1 ÷ 1.48 = 67.6% and 1 ÷ 2.54 = 39.4%. Those add to 107%, because dropping the draw does not remove the bookmaker’s margin. A sportsbook may price its DNB market directly and land on slightly different numbers, so the slip is the price that counts.

DNB and the Asian handicap of 0

Draw no bet is the same bet as an Asian handicap of 0, sometimes called a level handicap: no head start, a win pays, a draw refunds, a loss loses. The label changes between sportsbooks, the settlement does not. The level ball line explained goes through the handicap version, including how the stake splits when a line is a quarter.

Example: with home 2.10, draw 3.40 and away 3.60, the handicap of 0 on home would be priced near 1.48 as well. If it is priced much differently, one of the two markets has a different rule, perhaps on overtime or on what counts as the final score.

Reading a DNB bet before you place it

  1. Confirm the market name on the slip says draw no bet or handicap 0.
  2. Check the period: full time only, or including extra time.
  3. Work out the break-even rate: at 1.48 it is 1 ÷ 1.48 = 67.6% of non-drawn games.
  4. Read the sportsbook’s rules page for abandoned and postponed matches.

A short price needs a high win rate to break even, so it is not safer in the sense of costing less. The same logic that works for a walkover bet in tennis applies: the stake comes back when the event is void, and the price pays for that. When two books price the same match differently, the thought of combining them is the topic of sports arbitrage.

FAQ

What does DNB mean on a bet slip?

DNB is short for draw no bet. You pick home or away, and if the match ends level your stake is returned. If your side wins you are paid at the draw no bet price; if it loses, the stake is lost.

Why is the DNB price lower than the match result price?

Because the draw no longer costs you the stake. In the example, home at 2.10 in the three-way market becomes 1.48 as draw no bet. Protection against the draw is paid for in a shorter price.

Is draw no bet the same as an Asian handicap of 0?

Yes. A handicap of 0 refunds the stake on a draw and pays on a win, which is the same bet. Different sportsbooks may label it differently, so read the market name on the slip.
