A lucky streak is a run of wins in a row, and the run is real in the sense that you watched it happen. What is not real is the idea that the game has switched into a winning mode and will keep going. The streak is something randomness produces now and then, and the arithmetic below shows how often. If streaks pull you back to a lobby more often than you planned, the if you worry you are a problem gambler page lists the signs and the help lines.

Lucky streak arithmetic: five wins in a row

The numbers here use a labelled example, not a LARO77 game. Say a game has a hit frequency of 1 in 4, which is 25%, meaning one spin in four returns a win of any size. See hit frequency in a single spin on this site for the term.

  1. One spin wins with chance 0.25.
  2. Five wins in a row multiply: 0.25 × 0.25 × 0.25 × 0.25 × 0.25 = (0.25)^5.
  3. That is 1 in 1,024, about 0.098%.
  4. Over 1,000 spins there are 996 places where a run of five could start, and 996 ÷ 1,024 is about 1, so one such run is typical.
  5. Across 10,000 players each playing five spins, about 10 of them (10,000 ÷ 1,024) will win all five.

So five wins in a row is rare for one player in one minute and routine across thousands of players and spins. The streak you remember is the one that happened to you, and the many players who never saw one did not post about it.

Randomness: what an RNG does

Randomness in an online game comes from a random number generator, an RNG. The testing laboratory GLI describes an RNG on its own site as an element designed to produce a sequence of numbers that lack any predictable pattern. GLI also describes the RNG as a component that must be fully tested to ensure non-predictability and that no biases exist towards certain game outcomes.

What randomness does not do

An RNG doesAn RNG does not
Produce a sequence of numbers without a predictable patternRemember the last result
Decide each outcome on its ownRun hot, cold or due
Get tested by labs such as GLI for biasChange because you raised your stake

An RNG has no memory of what it produced a minute ago, and no mood. GLI’s page says RNGs determine results such as dice rolls, card shuffles and lottery draws, and that those outcomes are meant to be unpredictable and free from external influence. A run of wins is therefore not a signal that the generator is warming up. Which laboratory tested a given game’s RNG is something its studio publishes, so open the game’s info screen and read it there.

Beliefs against arithmetic

Use this table the next time a streak makes you want to change how you play.

BeliefWhat the arithmetic says
The machine is hotFive wins at 25% happen about 1 time in 1,024 sequences, and the next spin is still 25%
A win is dueAfter ten misses in a row, (0.75)^10 is about 5.6%, yet the next spin still has its normal 25% chance
A streak will continueIndependence: the chance of the next win does not depend on the last five
I should bet more after winsA bigger stake multiplies expected loss: at a 4% edge, ₱100 per spin costs ₱4 and ₱500 costs ₱20 on average
This is my lucky dayLuck is only the label we put on a run after it happens

The 4% edge in the stake row is the example figure from the glossary’s house edge entry. Read the house edge on your stake for what it measures, and the RTP side of that number for the return side.

What a streak does to your net loss

A streak shrinks your net loss for a while, and it does not erase it. A run of five small wins can still return less than you staked across the session. Count the whole session in your session net loss ledger and the streak becomes one line in the total, where it belongs.

Example: you stake ₱20 on 40 spins, which is ₱800, and a streak of five wins returns ₱30 in total while the other spins return ₱400. Your returns are ₱430, so the net loss is ₱800 − ₱430 = ₱370, streak included.

The Filipino word sugal covers play for stakes of every kind, and sugal in English explained covers it. The key point carries across words: chance does not owe you a win after a loss, and it does not owe you a loss after a win.

What to do with a streak: bank it

The only action a streak calls for is a stopping rule you set before the session. Make it concrete.

  1. Before you start, write down a stop-win: the amount at which you stop. Example: if the session starts with ₱500, stop at ₱750.
  2. Write down a stop-loss too, and a time limit.
  3. When the balance reaches your stop-win, withdraw the winnings and close the session.
  4. Do not deposit again the same day.
  5. If you cannot stop when the line is reached, try putting a site blocker on your devices.

Setting the line before you play matters because a streak makes the line feel too low. The version of you in the middle of a streak is the one the rule is for. For the 21+ rules that apply to everyone, see responsible play rules for adults.

FAQ

Is a lucky streak real?

The run of wins is real, because you saw it. The idea that the game is now hot is not: with a fixed hit frequency each spin has the same chance as the last, so a run is an ordinary product of randomness.

Does a win streak make a loss more likely next?

No. Each outcome is independent, so a streak does not make the next spin more likely to lose or to win. The chance stays what it was before the streak.

Should I raise my stake while I am winning?

Raising the stake does not improve any odds. It puts more money through the house edge, so expected loss grows with the stake.

Paano ko mapapanatili ang panalo ko?

Magtakda ng stop-win bago ka magsimula. Kapag naabot mo ito, i-withdraw ang panalo mo at tumigil sa sesyon.
