A GCash QR payment is a short routine: a code appears, you scan it in the GCash app, you check who is being paid, and you tap Pay. The routine only protects you when the code is fresh and the name matches, which is why the payment channel check comes before any scan. Ages 21+ only, and every GCash step below is quoted from GCash’s own saved help pages, not from a LARO77 rule.
How a GCash QR payment works
GCash’s help page “How to scan to pay with my QR”, read on 11 October 2026, opens with this line: “Pay cashless with QRPH using GCash anywhere in the Philippines.” It adds that you can scan QRPH codes powered by GCash and other financial institutions. Its steps for paying a merchant are a numbered list.
- Tap QR on the app.
- Scan the merchant’s QR code.
- Check the payment details, then tap Pay.
GCash’s page also says both you and the merchant get an SMS to confirm your payment. On a deposit screen the code in step 2 is the one the channel generates for you. The page on paying through GCash at casinos lays out what GCash publishes about limits and fees.
GCash scan to pay: the five steps for a deposit
Here are the steps in full, with the GCash wording marked.
- Generate a fresh code. Open Deposit, pick the channel from the list, enter the exact amount, and wait for the code made for this payment.
- Open QR in GCash. GCash’s page says to tap QR on the app and scan.
- Check the payment details. GCash says to check them before paying; the name and the amount are the two you compare.
- Tap Pay. One tap, one payment.
- Save the reference number. Keep the receipt and a screenshot.
Never skip step 3. GCash’s help page on sending money by QR says its scanner works with a GCash Personal QR, a GCash Merchant QR or a Bank QR code, so the scanner alone does not tell you which kind you scanned. The name on the confirmation screen does.
What the Bangko Sentral says QR Ph is
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, in its FAQs on QR Ph person-to-merchant payments, saved on 2 October 2026, describes QR Ph as the National QR Code standard, launched in November 2019. It says BSP Circular No. 1055 requires participating payment service providers, including banks and non-bank electronic money issuers, to adopt it. The stated aim is interoperability: one common code that any participating provider can scan and read.
| Item | What the Bangko Sentral says | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Name | QR Ph, the National QR Code standard | QR Ph P2M FAQs |
| Launch | November 2019 | QR Ph P2M FAQs |
| Requirement | Circular No. 1055 | QR Ph P2M FAQs |
| Purpose | An interoperable common QR code | QR Ph multimedia page, read on 6 October 2026 |
A common standard means the same code type works across wallets, which is also why a code can look right and still pay the wrong party. The name check is your protection.
Checks before you scan a code on a deposit screen
| Check | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh code | Generate it on the deposit screen for this payment | Receiving details belong to one payment |
| Name | Read the name GCash shows before you tap Pay | The code does not carry a label you can see |
| Amount | Match it to the figure you entered | A different amount means a different payment |
| Old screenshots | Delete saved codes from earlier deposits | An old code is not a deposit |
| Limits | Check Profile, then Profile Limits in GCash | GCash stops services once a limit is hit |
| Reference number | Save it from the receipt | It is how a payment gets traced |
GCash’s limits page, read on 11 October 2026, shows that a Fully Verified wallet sends up to PHP 500,000 a month and a Basic wallet PHP 5,000. If you reach a limit, GCash says you cannot use certain services until it resets on the 1st day of the following month or you upgrade your profile. See the GCash security settings before you pay anything from a wallet you have not protected.
The code will not scan
The camera will not read the code, or GCash will not generate one.
GCash’s page “Can’t scan / QR not working issue” gives four steps. Clean your camera lens. Move your phone near the QR so it fits in the box. Make sure the QR code is clear. Force quit and reopen the GCash app. If the code still fails, go back to the deposit screen and generate a new one rather than retrying the same image.
GCash shows an error about a minimum age requirement.
GCash’s page says this error means you do not meet the merchant’s minimum age requirement, and you cannot proceed with that QR payment. Close it and read the channel list again; this site’s players must be 21+ in any case.
Charged twice for one QR payment
GCash took the money twice for a single payment.
GCash’s page “Multiple charges for scan QR payment” (read on 6 October 2026) says to confirm what your transaction history shows. If you see only one transaction, the other payment is still being checked and the extra amount is auto-reversed after 24 to 48 hours. If both charges appear, go to Transactions, select your QR payment, tap Get Help and choose “I was charged more than once for my transaction”. File one ticket for each charge, because each has its own Reference ID, and attach a screenshot of each.
Do not pay a third time while you wait. If the lobby’s balance did not move, give the reference number to Customer Service. For mistaken transfers to a personal number, read why GCash Express Send is not a deposit first.
FAQ
Can I scan a saved screenshot of a QR code from my last deposit?
No. Receiving details are made for one payment. Go back to the deposit screen, pick the channel and generate a fresh code, even if the amount is the same as last time.

I was charged twice for one QR payment. What now?

Paano kung hindi tugma ang pangalan sa GCash screen?
Huwag pindutin ang Pay. Bumalik sa deposit screen, gumawa ng bagong code para sa payment na ito, at ihambing muli ang pangalan at halaga bago mag-confirm.
