A site blocker stops gambling pages from loading on a device, and you can have one running on your phone and computer in about ten minutes. This page walks through five steps, names the dedicated tools as their own pages describe them, and shows how to make the block stick. It sits in the cluster that starts at the problem gambler page, and it works best when you set it up before your next session.

Set up a site blocker in five steps

  1. Choose a dedicated blocker for each device. Open BetBlocker’s or Gamban’s own page and check that your phone, tablet and computer are covered before you add it.
  2. Add the blocker on every device you use. A block on one phone leaves the computer, the tablet and a shared device open, so add it on all of them in one sitting.
  3. Hand the lock to someone you trust. Have a family member set the account, the Screen Time passcode or the App limits PIN, and keep the code.
  4. Add your phone’s own limits. Turn on Screen Time content restrictions on iPhone or Digital Wellbeing app timers on Android as a second layer.
  5. Pair the block with an account closure. Send the closure request and set a calendar check, so the block and the closed account back each other up.

The sections below give the detail for each step.

Dedicated blockers: BetBlocker and Gamban

Both tools exist to block gambling and nothing else. The table quotes each tool’s own home page, captured on 11 October 2026.

ToolDevicesCostWhat it blocks
BetBlockerThe page lists “Android Phone”, “iOS Phone(Apple)”, “Other Apple Device” and “Other Device” in its support form, and says “Protect All Of Your Devices For Free”“Free for Everyone, Everywhere”; “No Registration Required”; “2 Minutes Setup”“over 1,096,100 gambling websites” once the app is running; the page counts 1.1 mil+ sites and 3.1k+ apps blocked
Gamban“Protect ALL of your devices with one licence”; “Gamban can be installed across all major device platforms”“Try Gamban For FREE”: a “7-Day free trial”; the price sits on Gamban’s own page“tens of thousands of gambling websites and apps worldwide”

BetBlocker describes itself as “a charity registered in Scotland” and adds a Calendaring feature, which “allows you to schedule when restrictions are active”. It also offers optional parental controls, which the parental controls page covers for a child’s device.

Gamban’s third step on its page reads “Set Up Layered Self-Exclusion”, and it recommends “a multi-layered approach”. That is the plan on this page: a blocker, the phone’s own limits and a closed account.

App blocker: stopping gambling apps on your phone

An app blocker closes the app, where a site blocker stops the page. You need both, because gambling happens in browsers and in apps.

  1. Use the dedicated tool’s app list. BetBlocker counts “3.1k +” apps blocked and Gamban blocks “websites and apps”.
  2. Set a Digital Wellbeing app timer on Android. Go to Settings, tap Digital Wellbeing, tap App timers, and choose the time for the app. Google’s page says “When you run out of time, the app closes and its icon dims.”
  3. Zero the timer for another user’s access. Google’s page gives the tip “To block another user’s access to an app on a device, create an App limits PIN and set the time limit for the app to zero.”
  4. Have a trusted person create the PIN. Google’s page says “Once you set up an App limits PIN, do not share it with others”, so the person who holds the PIN is the person who sets it.

App timers reset at midnight, according to Google’s page, and you can delete a timer by following the same steps. That is why the PIN holder matters more than the timer.

Your phone’s own controls

Both phone makers publish controls you can add as a second layer.

PhoneSettingWhat the maker’s page says
iPhoneSettings, Screen Time, Content & Privacy RestrictionsYou can allow or block content and built-in features; the Apps & Websites section lets you “manually allow or block specific apps and websites” for a child in a Family Sharing group
iPhoneSettings, Screen Time, Manage Screen Time, Lock Screen Time SettingsEnter a four-digit passcode before settings you chose for yourself can change; Apple’s page notes passcode recovery through your Apple Account
AndroidSettings, Digital Wellbeing, Chrome, Set site timerChoose a daily time limit for a website you choose
AndroidSettings, Digital Wellbeing, App limits, App limits PINA four-digit PIN for app time limits

Read each as Apple and Google describe it: Screen Time’s website blocking is written for a child’s device in a family group. If the phone is yours alone, ask a family member to be the one who holds the passcode, and see parental controls for how a family sets that up.

Family DNS filtering

Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 documentation says “1.1.1.1 for Families adds protection against malware and adult content”. It does not mention gambling, so it is not a gambling blocker, and this page does not count it as one.

Android’s own help page says your device uses Private DNS by default and recommends keeping it turned on. Keep that setting as it is and rely on the dedicated tools above for gambling. Decide in this order:

  1. Want gambling pages blocked on every device: use BetBlocker or Gamban.
  2. Want a time cap on one app or one site: use Digital Wellbeing or Screen Time.
  3. Want adult-content filtering for a household: read Cloudflare’s own 1.1.1.1 for Families page, which names malware and adult content only.

Make the block stick

A block that you can remove in a bad moment is a suggestion. Use this list to make it a rule.

  1. Someone else holds the passcode. A family member sets the Screen Time passcode, the App limits PIN or the blocker account, and you do not know it.
  2. Block every device. Phone, tablet, work laptop where allowed, and any shared computer at home.
  3. Close the account. Account closure at an online casino shows what to settle first; the block stops the pages, and the closure ends the account.
  4. Check weekly. Put a recurring reminder in your calendar to open each device and confirm the blocker is running.
  5. Tell the person who holds the code why. One sentence is enough.
  6. Deal with debt in the same week. If you borrowed to play, read how a loan shark’s interest adds up and write the list of what you owe.

Responsible play on this site starts at 21+ and with limits you set before you play; the responsible play rules list them.
